On the Eighth Day of Digital Leadership… Start Small!

8. Start Small
A legacy of wild spending on edtech ‘kit’ has created a sour taste in many leaders’ minds on money better spent elsewhere. The best way to avoid this is to start small, pilot, review and scale from there. This was the key message from former US Office of Edtech lead, Richard Culatta (now CEO of the International Society for Technology in Education). Here’s Kirsty Tonks, Principal Designate, Shireland New Tech Primary School with the same theme:
‘What’s going to make the most impact with the least investment? Test things first in the classroom.’
Lesson: Don’t assume the tech will work. Negotiate extended pilot-schemes to allow you to see if the tech is the right fit for you and your team before making any financial commitments.
