Chris developed an innovative way to keep students and staff connected to the University of Lincoln during lockdown, by creating a virtual campus called Lincoln Island which has been downloaded over 8000 times. We chat to Chris about the opportunity for Universities to really reinvigorate their teaching and learning, student centricity and the need to take the reality of local lockdowns and needs of shielding students seriously.

Chris Headleand is currently Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Computer Science, and member of the LALT academy board at the University of Lincoln. Chris has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Ethics having completed and a Masters in Computer Systems. He is an innovation evangelist, having come from a creative background now applies design thinking to computer science, providing novel solutions to technical problems. Chris specialises in improving student engagement, and has research expertise in games, data visualisation, and design methods.
As well as his industrial and research expertise Chris is also a fully trained educator with a degree in teaching, a PGCertHE, a PTLLS, and 18 years teaching experience at various levels. He currently lectures Games Design, Games Studies, Ethics, and Professional Practices at the University of Lincoln. Chris has always tried to approach teaching from a student-centric, perspective. This has taken many directions, including being the first person internationally, to teach an entire FE (college) course through social media.
