What’s your name?
My name is Vanessa Gaie.

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

What are you studying and where?
I study Communication Studies at Temple University.

Who are your favourite journalists and why?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite journalist, but I do enjoy reading articles from people who fight for social impact.

Which are three books you love?
I love poetry a lot so a few of my favorite are Milk and Honey, and The Sun and Her Flowers, both by Rupi Kaur. Another poetry book I recently read that I love is The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace.

How are you finding London? What do you want to see more of?
I really love London. It’s a great city vibe and I absolutely enjoy living in city-like areas. I want to see more of the street art because I always feel like I see the best art pieces when observing street art.

What are your interests and where do you see yourself professionally?
My interests are TV, radio, and journalism. After I receive a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, I intend to obtain a master’s degree in Journalism. Professionally, I see myself becoming a freelance journalist, as well as a producer for a radio or television talkshow.

What excites you about your internship with The Edtech Podcast?
What I am excited about most of course is learn how the podcast is run, but I am particularly interested in learning about the education system in the UK. I am intrigued to see the differences between UK and US education and some of the struggles.

What are 3 things people don’t know about you?
Three things nobody knows about me are:
- I started to teach my self Haitian Creole.
- I don’t really like cakes, cupcakes, or many pastries.
- I call all my nieces and nephews my children until I have my own.
10. If money was no object, what would you be doing right now?
I would be traveling to every country in North Africa, South Africa, and the Caribbean, dedicating my time to learn about all of the beautiful cultures that we don’t hear about all the time.
