Shafina Vohra

Shafina Vohra

The London Design and Engineering UTC

Head of Faculty (options)

Biography:

Head of Faculty (options) at The London Design & Engineering UTC

A-level Psychology Teacher

LEGO Innovation Studio lead; Certified LEGO Education Academy Teacher Trainer

PhD Student, Psychology, UCL.

As a Psychology teacher & researcher using and investigating hands-on learning methods with LEGO, Shafina finds her teaching more diverse and her learners find their lessons more fun and engaging as they create their own learning maps and journeys to support the learning of challenging content. Her use of LEGO is a combination of LEGO Education kits and the LEGO Foundation 6 brick concept that Shafina has adapted to suit A-level Psychology. This has only been possible due to the existence of the LEGO Innovation Studio which has enabled her to develop students, staff and herself!

Shafina’s research intention is to provide scientific, behavioural evidence on hands-on learning as research suggests the brain “loves touch” which enhances & stimulates multiple connections that allow for flexible thinking, creativity & problem solving. Hands – on learning also provides the opportunity to self-motivate & this in turn leads to successful learning as students are having fun through play.

Shafina has been invited to deliver a TEDxTalk on creativity soon and will be attending the LEGO Education partner conference in Billund to meet with teachers globally in sharing her successful practice.

As a Certified LEGO Education Academy Teacher Trainer she also trains students, teachers and anyone interested in learning about how to use LEGO in their lessons – both in line with LEGO Education philosophy and her own ideas.
