Shireland Collegiate Academy
Shireland Collegiate Academy is a large inner city secondary school in Smethwick, Sandwell in the West Midlands and the lead school in the Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust. Over the last twenty years the Academy has gained a reputation for effective use of technology to improve standards, innovative curriculum design and embedding new approaches to learning. The Academy has been judged as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2006, 2010 and 2013. It is also a Teaching School and one of the first five Research Schools in the UK. Over the next three years it will also open four brand new technology primary schools in the West Midlands area.
Shireland Research School aims to inform other schools of the latest research and evidence based practice and enables them to access training and support to carry out research of their own.
As a Research School our remit is to :-
– Encourage schools in their network to make use of evidence-based programmes and practices through regular communication and events.
– Provide training and professional development for senior leaders and teachers on how to improve classroom practice based on the best available evidence.
– Support schools to develop innovative ways of improving teaching and learning and providing them with the expertise to evaluate their impact.
